The Reserve Bank of New Zealand was established in 1934 and is New Zealand’s sole issuing authority for legal tender bank notes and coinage. Since 2002, New Zealand Post (on behalf of the Reserve Bank) has been the only official issuer of New Zealand legal tender commemorative coins.
New Zealand Post is proud to join the Reserve Bank in marking this auspicious anniversary and highlighting the strong relationship between the two organisations.
Based on the classic tüi and kowhai design of the pre-decimal one penny coin, this mint uncirculated one dollar coin is offered in a free-standing presentation card. Also included is a brief history of New Zealand’s central bank, as well as the story of our native tüi bird and kowhai tree.
