In 1923 Government decided that it was time to restore penny postage following its suspension in 1915.

Issue information

The suggestion that the stamp design depict a map of New Zealand was made by Mr R F Joyce. The Postmaster General gave his approval and Mr W R Bock was instructed to prepare a design and engrave a steel die.
