Coronation

Born on 21 April 1926, Elizabeth became heir to the throne when her father became King George VI, upon the abdication of his brother Edward VIII in December 1936. On Nov. 20, 1947, she married Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh, a distant cousin whose mother was a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria. When George VI died on 6 February, 1952, Elizabeth came to the throne at the age of 25.

The 2d, 3d, 4d and 8d stamps were designed by J Berry, the 1s 6d stamp designed by L C Mitchell. The 2d  and 4d stamps were printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co, the 3d and 8d stamps by Harrison and Sons and the 1s 6d by Waterlow and Sons.
