This exhibition coincided with - and celebrated - the sesquicentennial of New Zealand postage stamps.
Issue information
Among thousands of stamp collector 'gems' on display, the exhibition included the Full Face Queens, the first stamps issued in New Zealand. The stamps were so-named because they featured a front-on portrait of Queen Victoria. The event attracted worldwide interest, with stamp dealers from throughout New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain and the United States attending.
The New Zealand 2005 National Stamp Show was organised by the North Shore Philatelic Society, with support from stamp collectors in Auckland and throughout New Zealand, the New Zealand Philatelic Federation, the New Zealand Stamp Dealers' Association and New Zealand Post.
As a principal sponsor of the exhibition, New Zealand Post was delighted to issue a special exhibition miniature sheet and souvenir first day cover - two lovely mementoes of this important event.
