Design
The first coin depicts the Mounted Rifles Brigade, a major element of New Zealand’s effort in the First World War. The horses offered superior mobility and allowed soldiers to move quickly over short distances. The Mounted Rifles Brigade trained with their horses in New Zealand before making the long journey to Egypt via ship in 1914. These men served largely in the Middle Eastern theatre, particularly Sinai and Palestine, forming strong bonds with their horses, which is portrayed on this 1oz silver proof coin.
This highly collectable continuity set highlights New Zealand’s involvement in the war from beginning to end, and comes with a premium pressed metal tin to store all five coins, styled after the tins the soldiers would receive after enlisting. The set is limited to an extremely low mintage of just 1,000 coins worldwide.
