The Silver Jubilee of the accession to the throne of His Majesty King George V was celebrated throughout the British Empire on 6 May 1935 with much rejoicing.
Mr James Berry was originally invited to complete a design which incorporated sketches of the Royal couple together with the Southern Cross. The final design however depicted an image of the King and Queen taken from a series of photographs taken to commemorate the Jubilee. His Majesty personally approved the proof and requested that the original working drawing should be mounted in his collection.
