1946 Health

The 1946 Health Stamp issue focused on the theme of the returning armed forces. Having successfully completed their wartime missions, the members of the armed forces now turned their thoughts to peacetime pursuits. The stamp design was developed on the theme of a soldier extending a helping hand to a child on the road to happiness and health.

Issue information

As the basis for the design a soldier in battledress, with the typical New Zealand 'lemon squeezer' felt hat was photographed alongside a stile.  The scene in the background did not represent any particular locality. The proceeds of the 'Health' value of these 1946 Health stamps were donated to the Children's Health Camps movement.
