The 1976 Christmas Stamp Issue included an ivory depicting the nativity scene; a stained glass window depicting Christ; and an illustration of angels based on a Christmas carol.
The 7c and 11c designs were completed by Don Hatcher with the 18c design by Margaret Chapman.
This stamp entitled "Nativity" features a late 16th Century Gothic Ivory work by an unknown Spanish artist.
The stained glass window depicting Christ is in St Joseph's Catholic Church, Grey Lynn, Auckland.
This symbolic design is based on the carol "Hark the Herald Angels Sing".
This stamp issue first appeared in New Zealand Post Stamp Bulletin No. 16 in October 1976.
