Design

Struck to the highest possible quality by the Royal British Mint, this stunning $5 silver frosted proof coin celebrated the 151st year of the oldest international sporting contest in the world.

The silver proof coin in this philatelic numismatic cover (PNC) was made of 0.925 sterling silver and had a frosted finish. The reverse of the coin illustrated two yachts in a tacking manoeuvre in the America's Cup competition. The obverse contained Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The first day cover potrayed an image of the trophy itself, crafted over 150 years ago by Queen Victoria's silversmith. All three stamps from the America's Cup 2003 issue were affixed to this cover and it was cancelled with the issue's datestamp.

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand and New Zealand Post logos were displayed on the back cover along with additional information about this prestigious yachting contest.
