As athletes from around the world gathered to compete in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, New Zealand Post applauded the efforts of our young achievers of the future with the 2008 Children’s Health stamp collection. Titled Investing in the Future, the collection recognised the work of New Zealand’s Children’s Health Camps (Te Puna Whaiora) in transforming children’s lives.

Issue information

While not every child can grow up to be an Olympic competitor, they all have the right to fulfil their true potential. Te Puna Whaiora helps them to do just that, by providing targeted, solution-focused residential and non-residential programmes and mentoring for children aged five to 12 years whose physical and mental wellbeing is at risk.

The People of Our Future

2008 Children’s Health: Investing in the Future included a first day cover, miniature sheet and miniature sheet first day cover. Beautifully illustrated, they captured the energy and enthusiasm of young people at sport and play – the sports stars, business people and leaders and influencers of our future.

Helping New Zealand Children

Health stamps had been issued in New Zealand every year since 1929. The surcharge was donated to seven Children’s Health Camps throughout New Zealand, which aimed to help children and families with complex needs to build resilient lives.

“Sometimes we take a step back from the families and children we work alongside - we remain in awe of their determination to be all that they can be and the wonderful achievements that follow. The team at Te Puna Whaiora are all proud to meet such inspiring New Zealanders on a daily basis and look forward to continuing to promote their resiliency and achievements.”
