New Zealand Post was proud to present a suite of collectable products created in honour of our world-famous rugby team, the All Blacks.
Issue information
For more than 100 years, the image of a silver fern on a black background has meant just one thing: the All Blacks. Much more than a symbol of our national rugby team, it’s a powerful international brand that represents the epitome of sporting excellence: physical dexterity, rugged determination, and an uncompromising commitment to the principles of fair play.
New Zealand Post was proud to present a suite of collectable products created in honour of what was arguably be the biggest year in New Zealand rugby history. With an unrivalled winning percentage since the first test against Australia in 1903, the All Blacks carried the hopes and expectations of more than four million New Zealanders onto the field.
Despite decades of change in how the game of rugby is played, the All Blacks have one key thing in common with the generations of All Blacks before them: they all wear the silver fern.
This distinctive emblem was adopted by the New Zealand Rugby Football Union in 1893. Originally a graphic representation of the native ponga fern (Cyathea dealbata), it has been modified through the years to become the trademarked symbol we see today. Representing both a nation and a state of mind, it’s always placed on the left breast of the perennially black jersey, reflecting its place at the heart and tradition of rugby. Therefore it's only fitting that the silver fern takes pride of place on these official All Blacks stamps.
