(No reviews yet) Write a Review

Known around the world for its breathtaking scenery, New Zealand is an always popular tourist destination.

Issue information

This stunning stamp issue showcased three of New Zealand’s most picturesque locations – Cape Reinga, Stewart Island and Lake Matheson. The stamps extended New Zealand Post’s existing Scenic Definitives range, and these three new denominations were created to accommodate the upcoming changes in postage rates.

The three gummed and two self-adhesive stamps were presented together on the first day cover, which featured Cape Reinga in all its glory. This was the perfect stamp collectable to celebrate New Zealand’s natural beauty.

The $1.40 Cape Reinga stamp and the $2.10 Stewart Island stamp were available in self-adhesive booklets of 10 and five respectively.

Image Title Description Price
Single Stamp

Single $1.40 'Cape Reinga' gummed stamp.

The $1.40 stamp is available in gummed and self-adhesive formats, and features the iconic lighthouse at Cape Reinga. A popular spot for tourists, Cape Reinga is as far north as you can drive in New Zealand’s North Island, and marks the point where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean.

Single Stamp

Single $2.10 'Stewart Island' gummed stamp.

Lying across Foveaux Straight at the bottom of New Zealand’s South Island, Stewart Island is a haven for nature lovers. It is abundant with beautiful bays such as Thule Bay at Paterson Inlet. This large expanse of water is popular for boat trips, fishing and diving, and is illustrated on the $2.10 stamp (available in both gummed and self-adhesive formats).

Single Stamp

Single $3.50 'Lake Matheson' gummed stamp.

Lake Matheson sits near Fox Glacier on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. The dark brown water of the lake creates the perfect reflective surface on a calm day, resulting in ‘picture perfect’ reflections of our highest peaks, Aoraki Mount Cook and Mount Tasman – as pictured on the $3.50 stamp.
