Design
The design of the coin includes the unique bat using its folded wings to walk along the forest floor. It is beautifully framed within a circle that represents the moon (highlighting the nocturnal nature of the bat). The upper part of the coin features the bat in flight alongside New Zealand native ferns, and both the common and scientific names of the species are also included in the design – making it an extra-special coin to treasure.
