Decorate your home with this unique piece of 3D wall art created in Wellington, New Zealand by laser-cut experts Abstract Design. The design is based on one of Enid Hunter’s iconic stamp designs from 1970.
Enid Hunter studied graphic design at the Hull Regional College of Arts and Crafts in England before she moved to New Zealand in 1965. Her first New Zealand stamp designs – the native New Zealand butterfly series - were submitted in response to a New Zealand Post Office competition and were released as stamps in 1970. Featuring strong graphic lines and rich colours, Enid’s illustrated native butterflies are still appreciated today for their simple yet vivid portrayals.
Found during summer, the striking red admiral butterfly, which has the Māori name kahukura for its bright red colouring, is not often caught without a net as it is a powerful flyer. During the immature stages of its development the butterfly lives in the stinging nettle plant.
