(No reviews yet) Write a Review

The People of Niue rely heavily on fruit and vegetables as the base of their day-to-day diets. The abundance of fruit trees provides locals with an array of colourful and nutritious fresh produce that can be used liberally in both sweet and savoury dishes.

Issue information

This stamp issue focused on some of the more common fruit trees in Niue - the lime, mango, avocado and the hugely versatile coconut. All of these fruits are packed full of nutrient-rich vitamins and minerals, important for good health.

Limes can be used to add flavour and zing to food and beverages; the sweet juicy mango can be eaten fresh on its own or used in cooking; the avocado is full of healthy fats and vitamins, making a great flavour and texture addition to any dish; and the coconut is a staple in the island diet - the flesh can be eaten straight from the shell, the milk makes a refreshing drink, the dried coconut kernels can be pressed to make coconut oil, and so much more.
