In 1972 the New Zealand Post Office issued Health stamps with a sporting theme of tennis. In the past sporting themes had included rugby, athletics, swimming, cricket, netball, soccer and hockey. Mr L C Mitchell who designed many early New Zealand stamps completed these designs shortly before his death in 1971.
