Seventy two years after he first stormed onto our screens, Kong was brought to life once more for what was his most magnificent performance.

Issue information

One of the most legendary icons in move industry took over New Zealand in 2005, to the thrill of millions of excited fans.

72 years after he first stormed on to our screens, Kong was brought to life once more for what was sure to be his most magnificent performance. For Academy Award ® writing director, Peter Jackson, it was the realisation of a life-long dream and a tribute to the movie that prompted his own extraordinary career.

New Zealand Post celebrated this gigantic moment in New Zealand film history with a stamp issue that captured both the terror and the magic of Kong's release.

For those brave enough to look inside, you glimpsed the fear that unfolded in the movie, as the bold crew of The Venture was confronted by the reality of the mythical beast and the horrors of the world that surrounded him.

Each of the images for the five stamps were personally approved by Peter Jackson, so you could share some of his favourite moments in the incredible adventure.

Collector's Pack

Kong was well and truly captured inside this unforgettable collector's pack. It included the five stamps, the miniature sheet, and both first day covers. For the first time, New Zealand Post also brought sound to the collector's pack so you could imagine the breath-taking fear of being pursued by the beast himself.

First Day Covers

Mounted against the ghostly image of Kong, as he glared menacingly out into the murky waters, you certainly looked twice at this stunning stamp first day cover. The miniature sheet first day cover beared haunting words of caution to those who approached.

Miniature Sheet

The miniature sheet showed the five stamps set against the steel that would ultimately fail to restrain Kong.

Postage-included Souvenir Cards

You could watch Kong take over the world with these impressive postage-included souvenir cards. They were available as a set of five, each featured one of the stamps and the rampaging image of Kong.

The Ultimate Collection

For your convenience, you could buy all the products available in the stamp issue in this ultimate collector's folder.

Strongboxes and Bubblebags

Lurking in the depths of the steel container was an angry Kong, desperate to gain both his freedom and the girls he loves. This spectacular product range of strongboxes and bubblebags would have protected your parcels as you sent them off, or you might have wanted to keep one for yourself.
