To commemorate The Lord of the Rings’ 25th anniversary, this special-edition stamp series honours the nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring and the real-world filming locations that made Aotearoa New Zealand the home of Middle-earth, from the golden plains of Edoras to the volcanic peaks of Mount Doom.
Each stamp portrays a member of the Fellowship: Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Merry, and Pippin, beautifully illustrated by Sacha Lees, a concept and physical special effects artist from the original trilogy. Surrounding each stamp, New Zealand landscapes form the canvas of Middle-earth in the nine miniature sheets, with the filmed moment printed overtop in shimmering gold foil.
As The Lord of the Rings endures in the hearts of audiences worldwide, so too the mountains, forests, and valleys of Aotearoa New Zealand remain etched into the mythology of Middle-earth.
