The Royal Visit 2014 stamp issue was produced to celebrate the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son Prince George to New Zealand.

Issue information

The Duke of Cambridge first visited New Zealand when he was just nine months old, with his parents Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Nearly thirty years later, Prince William returned for a royal visit to New Zealand with his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge and their son, Prince George of Cambridge.

New Zealand has had a long and proud relationship with the United Kingdom and the Royal family, with Her Majesty the Queen having visited ten times in her 60-year reign. The first royal tour of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as a married couple was an exciting event for the Commonwealth. Significantly, this was the first time that Catherine and Prince George of Cambridge visited New Zealand. New Zealanders were excited for the arrival of the young royals, with over half of New Zealand having tuned in to their wedding in 2011.

New Zealand Post was eager to welcome the young couple and commemorate this occasion with a special stamp issue for their April tour. We were pleased to release this issue with the official sign off from Her Majesty the Queen. The two stamps depicted portraits taken after Prince George’s birth.

First Day Cover

You could commemorate the royal visit with a unique collectable. The two stamps were displayed alongside an enlarged picture of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George in Bucklebury.
