Set of four mint stamps.

$3.60 Th’ Dudes – Formed in the late 1970s by a group of Auckland schoolmates, Th’ Dudes’ lineup included frontman Peter Urlich, drummer Bruce Hambling, bass player Lez White, and guitarists and songwriters Dave Dobbyn and Ian Morris. After starting as a covers band, they went on to release popular originals including the Be Mine Tonight.

$4.20 DD Smash – After Th’ Dudes folded in 1980, Dave Dobbyn took the lead, forming DD Smash (briefly Dave Dobbyn’s Divers). Their 1982 debut album Cool Bananas made an historic debut at number 1 in the national chart. They gained further fans after recruiting a brass section, and single Outlook for Thursday went gold.

$4.90 Waiting for a Voice – This was the first track on 2016 album Harmony House, Dobbyn’s most recent album and his 11th collection of new releases. In one of many collaborations with fellow Kiwi musicians, it was produced by the Phoenix Foundation’s Sam Flynn Scott and Luke Buda.

$6.20 Welcome Home – One of Dobbyn's most beloved songs, Welcome Home featured on 2005 album Available Light. Dobbyn penned the song after watching anti-racism marches in Christchurch, inspired to welcome immigrants to Aotearoa New Zealand. In 2017, he released Nau Mai Rā, a translation of Welcome Home into te reo Māori.

This stamp issue celebrates Sir Dave Dobbyn, a music icon of Aotearoa New Zealand. Click here for more information.
