Of all the collectables we produce each year, The New Zealand Collection 2008 was surely the most keenly anticipated. This collection was particularly special, as it marked 25 years since the first edition.

Issue information

To mark the occasion, the 2008 edition included a fascinating feature that took us on a journey over the previous 25 years of stamp designs, covering national events and milestones that helped shape our nation.

In addition to the special feature, this edition contained a selection of New Zealand postage stamps released in 2008 and articles and stories that explored the subjects behind each of our stamp issues in greater depth.

Whether you are interested in our history, heritage or culture, there was something here for philatelists as well as friends and family here and overseas.

Highlights included:

  • An insight into our ANZAC tradition, from the perspective of our involvement in Vietnam. Written by Billy Barnz, whose 33 years of army service included a tour of duty in Vietnam, this was a fascinating story of his experiences thousands of miles away from his home town of Whanganui.
  • A respectful commemoration of Sir Edmund Hillary’s life and achievements written by fellow mountaineer Graeme Dingle, who spent time with Sir Ed on a number of expeditions in the 1970s.
