The time came to pay tribute to a fantastic year of stamps issued by New Zealand Post. In this year we celebrated the history, events, people and places that make up our unique country, and we captured it all in one stunning publication: The New Zealand Collection 2010.
The New Zealand Collection 2010 guided you through the best New Zealand Post had to offer in 80 brilliant pages. You could read about each issue with extensive commentary from well known New Zealanders, take in the beautiful pictorial images and marvel at the comprehensive collection of stamp products.
This year’s New Zealand Collection was your only chance to get you hands on a very special product – the exclusive New Zealand – A Slice of Heaven imperforate stamp sheet.
Our Story, Our Culture, Our Celebration
Open the book and you were immediately engaged by the introduction specially written by former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Jim Bolger in his final year as New Zealand Post Chairman. As you delved in further, you were immersed in the interesting and often amusing stories that accompany the brilliant stamps on display.
You started when you discovered the significance of ANZAC Day to New Zealanders. Written by Dr Stephen Clarke, Chief Executive of the Royal New Zealand Returned Services’ Association, the article paid tribute to those Australian and New Zealand Soldiers who lost their lives at Gallipoli in 1915.
You carried on to the Children’s Health issue, which in 2010 featured three beautiful butterflies found in New Zealand. Children’s Health stamps were a New Zealand Post institution, and it was, in 2010, more than 80 years since the first set was issued in support of Children’s Health Camps throughout the country.
Further on, the New Zealand – A Slice of Heaven issue was accompanied by the words of well known comedian and documentary maker, Andrew Lumsden (Te Radar). He took you on a journey back to the discovery of ‘God’s own country’, giving his unique take on how New Zealand came to be referred to as ‘a slice of heaven’.
