Take a Closer Look
This annual album was divided into three sections – Aotearoa, Culture and History.
In ‘Aotearoa’ you learned more about Hobbiton™, the movie set created for Sir Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy of films, and the place where the exciting journey through Middle-earth began. Now a permanent tourist attraction, Hobbiton™ attracts countless visitors each year. Alongside this article you found stamps celebrating the final film in The Hobbit trilogy: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
In the ‘Culture’ section, there were articles covering some very exciting events from 2014, including the Year of the Horse, Matariki, the 200th anniversary of the first Christmas service in New Zealand and the whirlwind Royal Visit 2014. These articles provided further insights into the importance of these events to New Zealand alongside stunning imagery and the stamps that celebrated them.
In the ‘History’ section, anniversaries of war took centre stage. We commemorated the 75th anniversary of the beginning of World War II with Anzac 2014 – WWII Poster Art and the centenary of the commencement of World War I with 1914 For King & Empire. Alongside these commemorations, you found more information about our kiwiana issue Legendary Landmarks and New Zealand architecture with Construction of a Nation.
