As a commonwealth nation, the people of Tokelau look to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as their Head of State. Therefore they are joining the rest of the commonwealth in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation with a commemorative stamp issue.
Both stamps in the issue feature photographs from the day of the Queen’s coronation in 1953 as well as a gold flower motif from the Royal carriage used to transport the Queen from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace.
$2.00 – 60th Anniversary of the Coronation Stamp
The $2.00 stamp shows Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh waving at crowds from the balcony at Buckingham Palace. The photo was taken on 2 June 1953 - the day of the Queen’s Coronation. Countless people camped through the night to catch a glimpse of the Queen, and thousands more celebrated throughout the country and the Commonwealth with street parties.
$3.00 – 60th Anniversary of the Coronation Stamp
The $3.00 stamp shows the royal group in the throne room of Buckingham Palace in honour of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Amongst others, the group includes the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret (1930 - 2002), the Duke of Gloucester, the Duchess of Gloucester and the Duchess of Kent.
