The Washington 2006 World Philatelic Exhibition featured 3,800 frames of competitive exhibits by collectors from around the world and a 500-frame 'Court of Honour', including some of the world's rarest philatelic items. The main themes of this exhibition were 'The Role of the Post Office in Uniting the Country', 'Children - They are the Future' and 'Moving the Mail in the 21st Century'.

The 2006 Washington World Philatelic Exhibition was hosted by the American Philatelic Society and organised by Washington Philatelic Exhibition, Inc., a not for profit organisation, with the support of the US Postal Service and the American Stamp Dealers' Association.
