World Stamp Expo 2000 ran from 7 to 16 July and offered visitors major attraction in over 37,000sq feet of exhibition space.

Issue information

A few of the attractions are NASA exhibits, Stampin' The Future Design a Stamp competition winners, and displays of some of the world's rarest and most valuable stamps.

Supported by the American Philatelic Society and the American Stamp Dealers Association, World Stamp Expo 2000 was held at the Anaheim Convention Centre in California from 7 to 16 July 2000.

During the show, five new US stamps were issued including two notable firsts. On the opening day of the exhibition - 7 July - an Achievements in Exploration stamp was launched. This was America's first circular hologram stamp. Three more issues with the space theme were released on each consecutive day of the exhibition. On the final day - 14 July - the country's first pentagonal stamp was issued entitled Exploring the Solar System.

To commemorate this international event New Zealand Post issued a special miniature sheet featuring five Round Kiwi stamps originally designed by Allan Mitchell of Wellington. The background design merges our flora - ferns - and the theme of the exhibition - the night sky above. A souvenir cover complete with the miniature sheet featured one of the monuments that can be seen when entering Anaheim.
