Design
This beautiful $1 silver gilded coin depicted the hand panning of alluvial gold from a river. Early alluvial gold discoveries, like that of Charles Ring in 1852, were an important forebear to the large scale gold mining rushes in the region that followed in the 1860s and 1870s.
