Inspirational as well as entertaining, the 2009 KiwiStamp made a cheeky statement about New Zealands sense of identity and show what this country has come to stand for.

Issue information

New Zealand stamps have a long history of interesting innovations.

The first New Zealand stamps were issued in 1855, some 15 years after they were originally issued by the British and called ‘Full Face Queens’. We were the first nation to trial advertising on stamps by printing them on the gummed side in 1893.

In modern times New Zealand Post continued its innovation with the introduction of its first non-denominated stamp – KiwiStamp. It held its value and was always be worth the required postage of a Standard Post medium letter.

They were easy to understand and simple to use. You could also use multiple KiwiStamps on a range of letter sizes or to send letters by FastPost.

Inspirational as well as entertaining, they made a cheeky statement about our sense of identity, and showed what this country has come to stand for in the past 170 years.

Whether you sent one on an envelope or received an envelope bearing one, they enriched the experience of letter-writing – an art that, in turn, enriched our lives and our world.

These were produced in booklets of 10, sheets of 50 and coils of 100 stamps.

Special Numbered and Silver Foiled Booklet or Sheet

To celebrate the introduction of this new era in stamps, New Zealand Post released two numbered and silver foiled products. These products were a self-adhesive booklet of 10 stamps and a self-adhesive sheet of 50 stamps with quantities strictly limited:
