Design
Though Victoria ascended the British throne in 1837, it was not until 1838 that sovereigns were first issued under her reign. It is that first ever sovereign effigy of Her Majesty that appears here, on the quarter sovereign. The effigy is framed with a koru design representing the royal generations past, present and future. A lattice stained-glass effect symbolises the web of territories that Queen Victoria reigned over during the early peak of the British Empire.
