Charles III, the King of New Zealand, succeeded his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, as sovereign immediately upon her death on 8 September 2022. To ensure that there is never a moment in which the nation is without a monarch, accession is automatic and instantaneous. The Coronation of The King and The Queen took place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023.
Alongside a cancelled stamp from the 2023 King Charles III stamp issue, this philatelic numismatic cover includes a New Zealand 50-cent proof coin specially marked with the year 2024. The 50-cent coin features the HMS Endeavour, the ship Captain Cook arrived on when he became the first Briton to reach New Zealand in October 1769.
This stamp and coin pack as been issued alongside the 2024 New Zealand Proof Currency Set, which features all five currency coins and 1/2oz versions of the silver proof Dark Sky | Light Sky coin set. Click here for more information.
