Single $4.90 'Lake Taupo' stamp
Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest lake sits in the centre of the North Island in a high volcanic zone where the earth’s crust is thinner. The lake was formed from a prehistoric supervolcano eruption which caused the crust to drop down by kilometres into a bowl shape, or caldera, and subsequently fill with water. Now a holiday destination, Lake Taupō has been drawing crowds with its natural beauty, geothermal pools, and the energetic Huka waterfalls since the 19th century.
