The Footrot Flats story began 50 years ago in 1976, when Murray Ball’s cartoon was first published in Wellington’s Evening Post newspaper.
No one could have guessed at the popularity that would follow. The exploits of farmer Wal’, his sidekick the Dog, and the cast of quirky characters both human and animal were soon embedded into our cultural landscape.
For half a century, Footrot Flats has retained its charm. This set of four stamps pays tribute to four ambassadors of Footrot Flats: the Dog, Wal’, Pongo and Rangi.
