We celebrated the Christmas-themed artwork of Niue’s youth with the 2016 Niue Christmas stamp issue.
Niue’s Christmas 2016 stamp issue was the result of a stamp design competition held by Niue’s primary and secondary schools. Students were asked to design a stamp based on the theme ‘What does Christmas mean to you'? The results were vibrant and eye-catching - with four winners selected from a range of age groups.
From a colourful Niuean pele pele or golden grouper fish (by Bailey Pasisi) to enjoying a feast on Christmas Day (Bentley Poihega), a beautifully wrapped Christmas gift (Iva Tanevesi) and a family decorating the tree (Flornie R Malinao), its clear that Christmas means may different things to the youth of Niue.
Accompanying the four stamps were a miniature sheet and two first day covers that beautifully complemented the stamps.
