This definitive stamp was produced as the result of a change in postage rates. The design incorporates on one of five photographs taken by Mr Warren Harrison previously used on the miniature sheet issued on 23 February 1977 to commemorate the Silver Anniversary of the Accession of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

Elizabeth II was born in London on April, 21 1926, first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, subsequently King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Her Majesty's coronation took place in Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953 after the death of her father. Princess Elizabeth married Philip Mountbatten, the great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria, in Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947. The Queen and the Duke celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in London in 1972.  In 1977, the Queen's Silver Jubilee was celebrated in the United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth.
